These Storms Were Located Along A Line Extending From 13 Miles Southeast Of Hayesville To 7 Miles South Of Dahlonega...And Was Moving East At 55 Mph. • Severe Thunderstorms Will Be Near... ....High Wind Warning in effect from 7 am this morning to 6 am EST Thursday...The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a High Wind Warning...which is in effect from 7 am this morning to 6 am EST Thursday. A strong upper low will approach from the west today. South to southwest winds of 25 to 40 mph...with gusts up to 60 mph...are expected across the mountains of North Carolina and northeast Georgia today and tonight. Winds will swing around toward the northwest overnight.A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

High Wind Watch in Effect Feb. 11, 2009

...High wind watch in effect from Wednesday morning through late
Wednesday night...

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued
a high wind watch...which is in effect from Wednesday morning
through late Wednesday night.

A cold front will move into the North Carolina mountains
Wednesday evening. Strong south winds of 25 to 40 mph...with
gusts up to 60 mph...are possible Wednesday afternoon and evening.
The area most at risk for damaging winds ahead of the front will
be the mountains of northeast Georgia...the mountains of the
western upstate South Carolina and the North Carolina mountains
along and south of the balsams.

Behind the front...the threat for damaging winds will shift to the
northern mountains...French Broad valley and far western foothills
of North Carolina.

A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph...or gusts of
58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest
forecasts.
